In the viticulture area with D.O. Ycoden Daute Isora, the wine yards grow between 50 and 1.500 m. of altitude. The Atlantic Ocean and the trade winds have an influence on the wine yards and make them
produce high quality viticulture. The areas dedicated to the viticulture are small, steep and with little mechanization. The grounds are from ash and volcanic rock. They use trained wiredraw, multiple string, the rastras, los vasos and nowadays the conducción en espaldera because of its easiness and good output.
The viticulture in the D.O. Valle de la Orotava is situated between 400 and 800 m. known as medianías, where the ground has a red colour, is loose, light, permeable, rich in natural nourishments, fertile and from volcanic origin. These grounds are found in hillsides and stream beds and the wine in wine arbours building multiple twisted species of giant cactus.
Nowadays the viticulture is reconverting the wine yards in espaliers, using modern technics in the growing of the grapes.
The increasing demand is extending the viticulture areas with new plantations.
In the viticulture area with D.O. Tacoronte Acentejo most of the wine yards are cultivated between 300 and 750 m. in middle high areas. The grounds, of volcanic origin, are fertile, with a reddish colour, rich in organic material, with little salt, abundant nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The viticulture in this area represents 40% of the cultivated land in Tenerife.
Up to the end of the XX century the viticulture was a tradition. Nowadays they are reconverting the grape plants into more competitive form, substituting the traditional plantations into espalderas or vine arbours, focused in the culture of varieties according to its enologic interest.
Nearly all the viticulture with the D.O. Abona is found between 400 and 1.700 m. high above sea level. The importance of water in the viticulture is that relevant, that the surface of the plantations is covered with volcanic sand or jable to keep the humidity and water. The cultivation is made with single plants or in various concentrations. In Vilaflor we can find the highest wine yard on the island, what converts it in the highest viticulture area in Europe.
The viticulture of the D.O. Valle de Güimar is found in the half way point and mountaintop, between 250 and 1.600m. of altitude. In the higher areas the cultivation is made in little plots with clayey earth mixed with organic material and in the middles the ground is poor and alkaline. The traditional cultivation is used, and the most recent technic is the espalier.
